The Railway Development Society is a voluntary body representing rail users across Britain. It is independent of political parties, trade unions and rail companies. Membership costs £21 (£14 for the elderly, unemployed and unwaged) and includes four issues a year of Railwatch, the RDS's national magazine, and two issues a year of Rail Wales, the newsletter of the RDS's highly active Wales branch. Cheques should be made payable to the Railway Development Society.
The branch led the rail users' input into the consultative process over the franchise specifications for the South Wales and West Railway and the Cardiff Railway Company, and is currently campaigning for the restoration of passenger services on the Vale of Glamorgan line through Rhoose and Llantwit Major and the Western Valley line between EbbwVale and Newport.
